Turkey's Minister of EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis on Friday held talks with European officials in Brussels after EU countries authorized the European Commission to launch talks with Turkey on visa exemption for Turkish citizens.
BRUSSELS- Egemen Bagis had a one hour meeting with European Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmstrom, European Commissioner for Enlargement Stefan Fule and EU term president Denmark's Minister of European Cooperation Nicolai Wammen in Brussels on Friday.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Bagis said that the European officials and he held the first meeting on the steps to be taken after Turkey and the EU initialled the readmission agreement on Thursday.
"A new process is beginning. We will continue negotiations in this new process. Our aim is very open and clear: We want to facilitate visa-free travel to the EU for our 75 million citizens as the citizens of other candidate countries can," Bagis stressed.
"Visa exemption for Turkish citizens planning to travel to the EU will be realized in about 3-4 years," Bagis also said.
